Customer Rating: Summary: Where's the Warranty? Comment: I just received the hose reel which I bought through Amazon. I used a Visa card with which I could double the warranty period. There was no warranty information listed on Amazon for it, but I figured it would be in the manual. Wrong. Zip, nothing, nada. O.k., so I called the manufacturer. Remarkably, the representative was clueless ... she referred me to the manufacturer's web page which, again, had no information about the warranty (if there even is one). You have to wonder about a product for which there is either no warranty or the manufacturer isn't inclined to publish and disseminate it. Customer Rating: Summary: Hose Winder and Amazon, what a combo Comment: I am extremely pleased with the hose winder purchases we made. after purchasing and trying one we had to get another. Unfortunatly the very first hose winder came to use damaged and had to send it back. Amazon made it so very easy and hassle free I did not mind the wait for the replacement. Amazon even sends an email notification of the return arrival. I could not ask for anything more. I am definitely a convert to the Amazon shopping. It took me several years to get over my fear of ordering online, and being a tech for many years, I know how many things can and sometimes do go wrong, but Amazon has made the experience hassle free and I am now a very confident Amazon shopper. Still have not tried other sites. I think I will stay with Amazon. THank you for making me a convert.
joe Customer Rating: Summary: Decent design, cheap materials. Comment: This unit does work well. The overall design and concept is sound, but there are a few issues:
1. Unit does have to be fully secured to the ground because you do need to pull hard to unravel the hose initially.
2. If the hose if fully unraveled, make sure you dont water near the unit so that the water the discharge hose spews out can be used to water nearby. If you have 100' of hose, the discharge hose will spew water for about 5 minutes until the hose if fully retracted.
3. And finally, the main reason this unit gets only a two star: Cheap plastic threads. Our hose burst a few weeks ago. Just an old hose, had nothing to do with this unit. However, I'm an engineer and pretty good with tools and mechanical stuff and I had difficulty getting the garden hose threaded on the main reel the first time around. The attachement swivels, but the angle is very difficult to get threads properly aligned with those of the garden hose. When you tighten, the cheap plastic threads can easily strip. This causes permanent leaking and makes the until completely useless becasue the garden hose attachment fitting is extruded into one piece with the main hose reel. Far as I can see, can't relplace this fitting without replacing the whole "guts and gears" of the system. I've called and e-mailed regarding warranty, but we'll see what happens. Just wish someone would have been smart enought to angle the hose fitting so that threads can easily be accessed or at least made them from material that is not as soft and not strip as easliy. Customer Rating: Summary: A wonderful thing! Comment: The best dollars I've ever spent. It delivers what it promises. This hose reel is just wonderful - no more back-breaking gathering up of the garden hose in the hot weather and sun. It works like a charm. After a whole season of use, I still say "You little devil" every time it effortlessly winds up 125 feet of hose while I simply watch!
Some useful tips: Do make sure the hose is straightened out and not kinked before it starts winding so it enters the unit smoothly. Also, you may wish to place the hose nozzle on grass vs. the driveway so that it doesn't get beat up scraping along the hard surface. Customer Rating: Summary: Works great! -- so far! Comment: I can only add to the other good compliments posted here that this unit seems to work very well. Far better than expected. You cannot expect it to pull a typical hose-end spray nozzle through the grass if its handle digs into the turf, but, other than that, it seems to rewind my 5/8" garden hose very effectively. I purchased two more after the initial one and have them positioned at three locations surrounding the house. I did not find it necessary to use pegs to secure the boxes to the ground. Everyone who has seen mine in action is impressed. Each unit holds 100-ft of this larger hose easily. The short hose section that is used to control the run off water as it is rewinding is no big problem -- I just direct it to the plants nearby, or use it to clean my hands or wash down the hose, itself, to remove grime or mud. This has solved a big irritating problem for me -- rewinding 100-ft of hose manually can be a pain!
