Customer Rating: Summary: Scotts Drop Spreader dropped it on this one Comment: When one hears the name Scotts, I automatically think "Quality". After buying the Scotts Accugreen 1000 Drop Spreader my thinking has changed. When the spreader is fully loaded with fertilizer, the wheel that turns the feeder mechanism in the hopper slides or skips on the lawn (rubber on the wheels probably would help) plus the handle bends when pushing the spreader (a T-Handle with channel iron would be sturdier). I had a drop spreader from another brand that lasted 22 years with no problems. This Scott spreader just appears to use cheap materials. Unfortunately, I bought this on-line and couldn't check out the product in person and relied on the "Name Brand". You'll be better off going to Wal Mart and checking out the off brand name spreaders there. Oh well, live and learn.

I also have a broadcast spreader and it slings fertilizer out into the street or driveway and walks. You especially don't want it slung into flower beds when you are using weed and feed. Works great and is very easy to push--lightweight and large wheels. I like the accuracy of a drop-spreader better than a broadcast because I only have a narrow lawn in my parking strip.
